  2. Hook KickBeginner๐ŸŸ๏ธ Floor๐ŸŽฌ 3

A standing martial-arts kick where the heel whips across the target, and one of tricking's core kicking vocabulary words. The cleanest way to understand it is as a round kick played in reverse: twist the body, chamber the knee, extend the leg just beyond the target, then pull the heel across as the hips pivot and rechamber to finish where the kick started. Easy to do, hard to do well โ€” quality depends on a strong hip flexor to lift and control the leg, dynamic hip flexibility to move through the big stretch of the kick, and a stable base leg underneath it all. It is also one of the most expressive kicks in tricking: it works at any height from a low sweep to head level, swung loose like a hammer or stabbed out and sharply rechambered, and it feeds directly into pop 180 hooks, touchdown hooks and countless kick combinations.

  4. 540 KickNovice๐ŸŸ๏ธ Floor๐ŸŽฌ 11

The signature beginner tricking kick: a cheat-step spin through roughly a turn and a half where the same leg jumps, kicks and lands. The setup is a pivot or cheat step that turns the body away from the target, with the pivot knee driving up hard as the kicking leg โ€” the last one to leave the ground โ€” jumps. The arms start wide and pull in to feed the spin, and the hips turn over to point in the direction of travel before the kick fires. Two faults account for most failed and painful attempts: kicking flat out to the side instead of with the hips rolled in, which is how groins get strained, and swinging a big rainbow crescent instead of extending at the top and snapping the kick down and through. The landing arrives back on the kicking leg with a pivot out to finish, though landing on both feet is the sensible first version.

  9. Cheat 900Advanced๐ŸŸ๏ธ Floor๐ŸŽฌ 8

A cheat-setup spin kick totalling 900 degrees of rotation โ€” roughly 360 in the step and 540 in the air โ€” finished with a roundhouse rather than a hook. The cheat setup does most of the work: the back foot steps around onto the ball of the foot, the head turns to find the target again, then a hard jump off the base leg sends the other knee shooting upward. Airborne, the arms pull to the twisting shoulder and the legs squeeze together so the chambering knees wrap around each other, while the eyes keep hunting the target โ€” spotting at takeoff and again coming around is what snaps the head and speeds the spin. The fault every coach warns about is releasing too early: swapping the chamber knee or throwing the kick before about three-quarters of the spin bleeds all the rotation away. The kick itself extends with full hip turnover as the arms fly out to cancel the twist. Standard prerequisites are the tornado kick and a backside 540 round.
