Lazy Vault

1 · Beginnerparkour🏟️ Floor

The lazy vault is the low-effort way over a rail or obstacle approached at an angle or from alongside: one hand plants on the bar, the inside leg swings up and over, the other leg follows in a scissor, and the trailing hand drops behind the body to push out the far side. The lead arm carries the weight β€” planted out in front and slightly bent, with the hips kept close to it for balance β€” while the swinging leg acts as the rudder, since wherever it points is where the vault travels; the second hand, wrapped around the bar behind the hips, supplies the push-out and can even redirect the exit entirely. The usual mistakes are planting too close and clipping a knee, letting the hips rotate open mid-vault, and forgetting the back hand until there is nowhere to put it. It is learned slowly on a low rail, swinging over from a stand before adding a walk and then a run, and drilled on both sides.

Key cues

  3. Swing the inside leg up and point it where to go
