360 Back Handspring

4 · Advancedgymnastics🏟️ Floor

A back handspring carrying a full 360-degree twist, so the hands touch down mid-twist and the trick lands facing the way it started. The usual progression runs through straight cartwheels on both sides, a dive cartwheel, and an a-twist gumbi β€” the second half of the trick is essentially that gumbi, launched from a two-foot back-handspring takeoff instead of a step-in. The jump comes first: leave the ground off both feet as if setting an Arabian, keep the head neutral, and let the twist arrive late β€” hunting for the floor under the armpit twists the shape early. The hands face the opposite way to a backwards cartwheel and touch down one after the other, typically catching around three-quarters of the twist and squaring up on the way back to the feet.

Key cues

  1. Drill straight cartwheels on both sides first
  2. Jump off both feet before any twist starts
  3. Keep the head neutral in the air
  4. Turn the hands opposite to a backwards cartwheel
  5. Land one hand then the other
  6. Square up over the hands to finish the twist
